Tail of US bomber Lockheed / Vega B-17G-5-VE (№ 42-39867) «Hang the Expense III» 351 th Bombardment Squadron of the 100th Bombardment Group USAAF, damaged by anti-aircraft fire during a raid on Frankfurt, January 24, 1944. Tail gunner  Roy Urich was thrown clear by the explosion, but he survived and was taken prisoner.  This aircraft was repaired and re-joined the 100th Bombardment Group.

Flak damage

An American  A-20 Havoc bomber of the 9th Air Force U.S. Air Force, shot  by antiaircraft fire.  Flak tore the tail of the aircraft. The fate of the crew is not known. No time or place mentioned.
