A different angle view to the already posted photo - The USS Oklahoma floats capsized near the USS Maryland. The ships were destroyed during the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941.

Getting ready for a mission

Intense smoke

The light cruiser USS Phoenix (CL-46) cruises along the burning row of battleships at Pearl Harbor.  To the left is a smoky plume from the battleship USS West Virginia (BB-48), to the right of that battleship is the USS Arizona (BB-39) during the attack on Pearl Harbor, Oahu, Hawaii; December 7, 1941. 
   The cruiser was anchored to southeast of Ford Island and escaped unscathed. Shortly after midday she was assigned to a search task force for enemy aircraft carriers, which was unsuccessful.

Passing the burning battleships

Sinking battleship USS California, (BB-44) off Ford Island in Pearl Harbor, Oahu, Hawaii on December 7, 1941, after being hit by two torpedoes and two bombs.

 It was abandoned by the crew due to a burning oil patch around the ship. On the left, the destroyer USS Shaw (DD-373) is seen burning in dry dock. Closer to the center, the masts of the battleship USS Nevada (BB-36) are visible.

Taken to a hospital ship

This Wildcat has gone over the side of the USS Charger (CVE-30) on 28 March 1943 but has become entangled in the catwalk. Charger served in the Atlantic, primarily as a training carrier. The pilot can be seen climbing up the starboard side of the aircraft. Note the stenciling on his seat cushion still in the cockpit. The pilot survived with scratches only.
