Torpedoed, sank and later raised...

Sinking battleship USS California, (BB-44) off Ford Island in Pearl Harbor, Oahu, Hawaii on December 7, 1941, after being hit by two torpedoes and two bombs. It was abandoned by the crew due to a burning oil patch around the ship. On the left, the destroyer USS Shaw (DD-373) is seen burning in dry dock. Closer to the center, the masts of the battleship USS Nevada (BB-36) are visible.
