Another Bovril advertisement, appearing in the September, 1943 edition of "Country Life" magazine.  Here, the beefy paste is promoted as a way of adding flavor to a stew that, otherwise, might contain little or no meat. The Ministry of Food was really enthusiastic about basic veg.  This is an extract from a Ministry flyer encouraging people to serve their families with plenty of nutritious  vegetables (Home Guards Carrot, Potato and Cabbage).  Home Guards Banana and Orange are notable by their absence, and would continue to be so in Britain well into the 1950s.  Best regards, JR.
