Whatever about the headgear preferences of MacArthur and Ike, here is a man seldom photographed without a helmet in WW2, pictured sans helmet, albeit in WW1.  Patton was strongly convinced of the potential of tanks by his WW1 experiences, so it is appropriate that his seen posing in front of a French-built FT17 - arguably the first "true tank".
