Whatever about the headgear preferences of MacArthur and Ike, here is a man seldom photographed without a helmet in WW2, pictured sans helmet, albeit in WW1.  Patton was strongly convinced of the potential of tanks by his WW1 experiences, so it is appropriate that his seen posing in front of a French-built FT17 - arguably the first "true tank". William Jones also a sniper stated "Sure the boy's with their M1's were faster than me,but I could hit what I shot at - I cursed the Germans for making my rifle get muddy when they shelled us" During one shelling Jones 03A4 rifle got destroyed,he said " I felt like I lost my best buddy - The next night a liutenant checked off names of the dead and wounded and I mentally added it to the list - The rifle,Now I was just another dog faced GI with an M-1 Garand in the hedgerows....."
