An image of the Normandy Hedgerows - Hedgerows such as these proved a shock to the Allied soldier.  Completely untrained as to how to overcome such obstacles and having many within their ranks completely new too combat, - the Allies suffered terrible losses in this terrain that greatly favored the German defender. 

Normandy June 10, 1944

Armed with the M1903A4 rifle fitted with a 2.5X scope,Using the 03A4 sniper's rifle Cpl. Robert Bevan had killed a German Machine Gunner at a range of 1,350 yards - ranging in with 2 tracers and the kill with a standard round,He stated "The rest of the Germans threw a white cloth over the MG and surrendered". William Jones also a sniper stated "Sure the boy's with their M1's were faster than me,but I could hit what I shot at - I cursed the Germans for making my rifle get muddy when they shelled us" During one shelling Jones 03A4 rifle got destroyed,he said " I felt like I lost my best buddy - The next night a liutenant checked off names of the dead and wounded and I mentally added it to the list - The rifle,Now I was just another dog faced GI with an M-1 Garand in the hedgerows....."
