Pantanella, Foggia Airfield Complex, Southern Italy, 26 June 1944: the return of “Three Cornered Kid”, a Consolidated Vultee B-24H Liberator, s/n 42-52453, Red L, of 464 Bombardement (H) Group’s 776th Bomb Squadron, 55th Bomb Wing, 15th Air Force, first pilot Capt. Arthur N. Robertson, Jr. from its 21st mission, a raid over Vienna, target Florisdorf oil refinery and oil sidings. The aircraft was hit by Flak and returned to its base with No 1 engine out, hydraulic system out, right main gear inoperative and co-pilot hit in the head by an AA fire shell landing at Pantanella with only her nose and left wheel and experienced a runway excursion. On the right of the picture is visible the boom truck getting ready to move the stricken B-24. Victor Sierra
