The 47th Bombardment Group’s A-20s leaving Messina after an air raid against the harbor during the air missions, Summer 1943, before the landing on Sicily. The shore line is well visible above. From the interesting site of USAAF’s 47th Bombardment Group in WW2 (47thbombgroup.org) a fine shot of one of its Douglas A-20s Havoc photographed during its stay in Tunisia, 1943, before the transfer in Italy. The photo highlight many details, like the large Wright R-2600-A5B Twin Cyclone radial engines, 1,700 HP each, of this excellent American aircraft classified “Attack” and in the RAF knew like Boston. Note the propellers blades leading edge scraped by the use on the North Africa’s sandy terrain. Victor Sierra
