Accomplice perhaps also a runway transformed into a bog, with mud and pool, by an Autumn storm, the taxing of this Storch commandeered by American forces ended in a spectacular ground loop on Amendola Airfield, Apulia, Southern Italy, October 1943. The Amendola Airfield conditions of this time were well different from those of modern Amendola Military Airport, today base of Italian Air Force’s fighter-bombers AMX and UAV Predator. P-51 Mustangs the 505th Fighter squadron, 339th Fighter Group, based at RAF Fowlmere, England. All are P-51D's with the exception of 42-10657 (2nd from front) which is a P-51B. Serials visible are 44-72437 (front), 42-10657, 44-11427 and 44-11215 (top).
