An American amphibian GMC DUKW-353 is being unloaded from a landing craft LST at the floating pier in Mulberry Harbor. Mulberry Harbor is a British system of coastal structures, which were temporary seaports, used on the undeveloped coast of Normandy, France to offload military equipment, personnel and supplies during Operation Overlord; June 1944.

 The crew of an M26 Pershing tank (named Eagle 7) of the US 3rd Armored Division. The gunner, Pennsylvania native Clarence Smoyer, in the center, no helmet, knocked out a German "Panther" tank (Pz.Kpfw. V) during the famous battle at the Cologne Cathedral. For his success and bravery, he was awarded the Bronze Star; Cologne, Germany, March, 1945.
