In the woods of the Wesel area

October 18, 1944. Another day of the same activities, punctuated by more rain. The 10th Armored Infantry Battalion received word that effective the next day, they would move from control of Combat Command Reserve to Combat Command A. The 37th Tank Battalion managed to add the new grousers to all 25 medium tanks for which they had the devices.

The 94th Armored Field Artillery Battalion relocated approximately five miles from their present position in order to provide support for the Second Cavalry Group. This was a much more comfortable location, as they were able to secure some barns and other buildings as billets. The battalion also received their first passes to Nancy (long after most of the division had been granted the benefit).

Patton's Vanguard

  Soldiers of the 442nd Regimental Combat Team travel in a Willys MB jeep during the Falaise operation, in the vicinity of the city of Falaise, France (approx. 20 miles south of Caen).
  The 442nd Regimental Battle Group was formed from second-generation Japanese Americans (the so-called Nisei) who chose to fight against the Axis. The jeep is equipped with a Browning M1917 machine gun. A post is fixed on the bumper of the jeep, which protected passengers from the wire stretched by the Germans across the road; August 1944.
