Italian built Romanian bomber

The nose of a Romanian Air Force’s bomber Savoia-Marchetti S-79JR during an engine test likely prior of the delivery from the Savoia-Marchetti’s factory of Vergiate, near Varese, Northern Italy, Autumn 1939. The JR was a special model, especially designed for Romania, with Junkers Jumo 1.220-HP each in-line engines, of S-79B, the S.79’s version twin engine, with nose completely redesigned, in tandem cockpit and new tail and fin. The Romanian Air Force, already operator of S.79B, purchased 24 S.79JR on 1939 while other 16 aircraft was produced under licence in the course of 1941 by Industria Aeronautică Română at Brasov’s factory. The Romanian Air Force’s S.79B and S.79JR was employed on Eastern Front against the Soviet Army. Victor Sierra
