After the surrender

This poor, but interesting picture show the arrival at Paramythia, a Greek airfield at this day, 14 April 1941, still in British hands, of Peter King of the Yugoslavs, escaped from his country, invaded by German and Italian troops, on board of a Yugoslav Air Force’s Savoia-Marchetti S.79K. The plane, “White 12” of Yugoslav Air Force’s 7 Puk, of the young King (18 yeas) landed at Paramythia, base of No 211 Squadron RAF, escorted by a Dornier Do 17K of Yugoslav Air Force’s 209 Eskadrila. Ironically, the planes employed for the escape of the King of Yugoslavs was built by the Yugoslav’s enemies: Italy for the S.79, Germany for the Do 17. On board of the same S.79K, Peter left Paramythia for Menidi, Egypt, escorted by a 211 SQN’s aircraft. From Egypt the King reached the Great Britain. The S.79K remained in Egypt and his final fate is unknown. Victor Sierra

The King’s escape

A pro-Japanese rally in Vietnam. The man standing on the left side of the balcony looks a bit like Huynh Phu So, the leader of the Hao Hao sect and a strong supporter of Japan during the war.
Many in Viet Nam looked to Japan as a potential ally in helping to rid their lands of French colonial rule, and thus some were encouraged to form political and para-military organizations that took a pro-Axis stance.
