At beginning of 1939 the Swizterland ordered 80 Bf.109E-3a ("a" for Ausland, Export) with two 20mm cannons Swiss-made Oerlikon in the wings and two 7,45 mm machine-guns, also Swiss-made, over the engine cowling syncronized with the propeller. The Swiss also placed in service other Bf.109s of versions F and G, partly ordered, partly confiscated after non authorized landings in Switzerland.
