Righteous among the Nations is the term used by State of Israel to describe non-Jews who risked their lives during The Holocaust in order to save Jews from extermination by the German Nazis. Number of awards (medals) for citizens of countries: POLAND 6066 , NETHERLANDS 4863 , FRANCE 2833. The rest of countries on: www.yadvashem.org Note about Poland: In German-occupied Poland, all household members were punished by death if a Jew were found concealed in their home or property, death was a punishment for providing any aid to Jew etc. giving bread or water to passing Jews. This was the most severe law enforced by Hitler in occupied Europe. Nazi Germans made death camp Auschwitz Birkenau in the area of Poland. In this camp Nazi Germans killed civilians 960 000 Jews and 75 000 Poles. Only part of criminals were punished after war by Americans, Poles and Jews. Most well known Righteous: Irena Sendler saved 2500 Jews (POLAND), Oskar Schindler (GERMANY) saved 1200 Jews.
