To communicate on radio, phone or on paper, the troups in the field used this leatherbound "book". syllabes or even words to be found in the orange squares were replaced in a text by their number in the square plus the coordinates of their orange square given on the sliding borads left and upper sides. Both these slides were drawn in a different and preagreed position each day.
