Hit by AA fire during a bombardment mission over Famagosta, Cyprus,  August 21, 1941, a Cant Z 1007bis &quot;Alcione&quot; of Regia Aeronautica, landed in front of Turkish coast, sink in the Aegean Sea. The plane is the aircraft MM 22156, number 8 of 210th Squadriglia (code 210-8 over the white strip on fuselage), 41st Gruppo Bombardamento Terrestre based at Rhodes. The photo was taken from the dinghy by a military photographer embedded in the crew. The crew, obviuosly with the photographer, was rescued by a torpedo boat (MAS) sailed from Rhodes. Victor Sierra.

Some of Italian bombers sended in Spain by Italian Government in 1936 to provide support to Francisco Franco's Nationalists during the Spanish Civil War lined up at Madrid to celebrate the end of war and Nationalist's victory, Avril 1, 1939. Note SM.79s and, in foreground, a Fiat BR.20 "Cicogna" with first letter ("M") of Benito Mussolini's signature on the fuselage. Apart from 55 Savoia-Marchetti SM.81 "Pipistrello", the Italian bombers sended to Aviación Legionaria (the Regia Aeronautica's expeditionary corps in Spain) were 99 Savoia-Marchetti SM.79 "Sparviero" and 16 Fiat BR.20 "Cicogna". Gorizia's airport, summer 1941: perfect lineup of the brand new Macchi MC.202 &quot;Folgore&quot; of 4th Stormo &quot;Francesco Baracca&quot;. The Stormo is waiting for departure for North African front with the new fighter wich has replaced the Macchi MC.200 &quot;Saetta&quot; previously employed. The planes haven't again the anti-sand filter mounted afterwards before the transfer in Libya. The first unit of 4st Stormo equipped with the &quot;Folgores&quot; was the 9th Gruppo with the 73nd, 96th and 97th Squadriglia.  At the end of September 1941, the 9th Gruppo was transferred in Sicily, at Comiso, and at the end of November, after completation of pilot's training and installation of the filters, 96th and 97th Squadriglia departed for Libya, Martuba airfield, while the 73nd Squadriglia remained temporaly in Sicily.
