Nevertheless CR 42 was used as fighter-bomber and night fighter still to 1944, when the production stopped. The Germans used about 60 CR 42s, the last serie of production, as fighter-bombers in Balkans.
Look the funny insinia of 162a squadriglia: a cat with the battle-cry "varda che te sbrego" = pay attention, I better you down.

... for the 149.40 semovente prototype. Perhaps in the firing-ground of Nettuno. 1943.
The only one semovente 149/40 built was captured by Germans after Italian armistice, and later captured again by US forces. Now it's exposed in US artillery museum of Aberdeen.
