With the Hungarian recovery of Karpatalja (Ruthenia), two direct railroad lines were reestablished between Poland and Hungary. Here the arrival of a Hungarian train in a border town brings together Polish and Magyar officers, greeting one another at the station.

Three Polish and two Hungarian soldiers are present at the moment the Hungarian flag is planted at the newly established frontier.  The common frontiers had some strategic importance, but even more so a psychological one. In any case, around 140,000 Polish refugees were able to cross over to Hungary in the fall of 1939.

Polish and Hungarian soldiers and civilians mingle at a border railroad station as the border is opened between the two old neighboring lands. Despite shared historical events and similar mentalities, the two divergent languages made conversation between the two peoples very difficult. (Thanks for English today.)
