Two relaxed Hungarian guards are surrounded by Russian villagers and a few other Hungarian soldiers, while eating a meal in the yard of a Russian farm house. It is difficult to know exactly, but perhaps the muzhiks had been roped into labor service of some sort, but that is only a guess, and now are being fed.

Discipline in the Honved army was stiff, which sometimes proved to be effective, or sometimes it would backfire. Here a Hungarian officer is presenting his views to a group of his soldiers. But discipline was hurt not only by an unpopular cause, other than defense, but also by the social divisions still plaguing Hungary then. The officers were classy "gentlemen" and the soldiers just "common folk."
