Infrared, circa 1944: One of the few SdKfz.251/20 "Uhu" equipped with the "Biwa" infrared gear for the vehicle driver and MG42 gunner. Reported range of the infrared gear was 500+ meters. But with the muzzle flash from the MG42 as intense as what it was, I wonder how useful the whole contraption could ever be? The ability to see in the dark is cancelled out when you are blinded by your own muzzle flash!

Nightvision

Volunteer soldier of the Legion of French Volunteers against Bolshevism in Russia, November 1941, just as the Russian winter really began to take a grip.  The French Legion was deployed before Moscow at this time, and suffered heavy casualties in the German advance on the city.  Best regards, JR.
