Senior mountain trooper

A nice "front" photo, probably a propaganda image. The light machinegun is the MG34, and that's probably an NCO with the binoculars. I try to stay away from posting more German photos -- this site has a distinct list in that direction -- but this one has some drama that I liked. Given the building's look and the landscape, I'm guessing this was from the eastern front, maybe early war, but I don't know. The photo was posted on another forum as an expired e-bay offering.

High decorated NCO of the 61st (east-prussian) Infantry-Division, decorated with Iron Cross 2nd and 1st class, Wounded badge in Silver (could also be Gold), Infantry Assault Badge, Russian Front Medal 1941/42 and Close Combat Clasp (probably in Bronze).
