The photo depicts a Pz.Kfw IV ausf D or E, a first of a 40 batch in Libya, the spring of 1941 of Pz. Regiment 5 or 8 of either the 15th or 21st Panzer Divisions. At the start of the north African campaign, it was effective with its short barreled low velocity 7,5cm gun but by 1942 new long barreled Pz.Kfw IVs ausf F,F2 & Gs arrived with upped 75mm guns dubbed under "specials" and the afrikakorps divisions received the first 10 for #operation_Venezia , Rommel's attack on Gazala( Mai 1942)

All the armour and firepower of the German Tiger tank was wasted if it couldn't get to the battlefield. It was too wide for the standard railway loading gauge (requiring special narrow tracks for rail transport, and the removal of the side skirts and outer road wheels) and it was too heavy for many bridges, with the unfortunate consequences seen here. This was worsened by the fact that it was also too heavy for the standard German heavy recovery vehicle, requiring three of them together to recover it.
