The HE 111 was the most numerous bomber the Germans used early in the war. It did well until the Battle of Britain when it's weak defensive armament, slow speed, and lack of manoeuvrability were exposed. It was able to withstand heavy damage and remain airborne. The HE 111 also served as a torpedo bomber, strategic bomber, and transport aircraft.
