A moment of stillness as a dazed prisoner and a combat hardened Canadian soldier take the weight off their feet in the Caen railway station.  For the German the certainty that he would survive the war.  For the Canadian, the uncertainty of what tomorrow may bring.

Here, on a Caen street, only a few hours ago, Bombardier E.I. Hill was buried where he fell.  He came bringing destruction as the price of liberty, but a young woman of the city brings flowers to his grave.

These Canadian and American soldiers link up at Elbeuf, France.  They exchange a few jokes and good ole American cigarettes.  Good-natured and humorous, the soldiers are ready for any sort of violence at a moments notice-witness the field-dressings stashed in helmet-nets.
