They are illuminated by the flash of bombs exploding on the railway sidings, dropped by the preceeding aircraft, DZ458 'GB-J', flown by Squadron Leader R W Reynolds (pilot) and Pilot Officer E B Sismore (navigator), from which this photograph was taken.

BEF in France 1939/40

Buffalo Mark I, AS426, at the Aeroplane and Armament Experimental Establishment, Boscombe Down, Wiltshire. This aircraft was one of 33 ex-Belgian Model 339Bs purchased by the British Government, following the fall of Belgium. A few examples served briefly with No. 71 Squadron RAF, but all were eventually transferred to the Fleet Air Arm.
