Short Sunderland Mark I, N9029 “V”, of No. 230 Squadron RAF, taking off from Abukir Bay, Egypt. The No 230, which flew the Sunderland from 1938 until 1957, was in Egypt, engaged on anti-submarine patrols and reconnaissance operations for the Mediterranean Fleet, from June 1941 until January 1943. The Abukir Bay (Abū Qīr) was the theatre of the famous victory of the Admiral Horatio Nelson against the French fleet of the Admiral François-Paul Brueys d'Aigalliers 1-2 August 1798. Victor Sierra
