Moved to Malta in June 1943 to support the invasion of Sicily, No 111 Squadron switched through Italy with the advancing Allied ground forces and remained there until the end of the war, after which it moved to Austria. 269 aircraft were claimed shot down by No 111, making the squadron one of the top RAF scorers for the war. Low-level oblique photograph of four Bristol Blenheim Mark IVs of No. 21 Squadron RAF Detachment based at Luqa, Malta, fly past Linosa Island (one of Pelagie Island)at 50 feet (15 meters) above the Mediterranean Sea while on an anti-shipping strike. At the end of 1941 the No 21 Squadron moved from Great Britain to Malta to attack Italian shipping. The Squadron was disbanded in Malta on 14 March 1942.
