This is my great uncle, David L. Martineau, at the time commanding the Phelps, I believe.  He won a Silver Star, two Bronze Stars, and various other commendations for his actions against the Japanese. From my great uncle David L. Martineau's family memorabilia.  I believe Gertrude Cove, which is prominently featured, was named after David's mother when he mapped the island before the war.
