Mahan-class destroyer, USS Shaw, destroyed during the Japanese aerial assault on Pearl Harbour, 7 December, 1941. USS Shaw - a ship plagued by mechanical problems from the time of her commissioning in 1936, was in dry dock at the time of the attack, and thus a sitting duck. In the event, it did not help that her magazines were well filled. The ship was set on fire by Japanese bombs, and exploded spectacularly when the fire ignited her forward magazine. Best regards, JR.
