Enlisting in the Navy as an apprentice seaman in 1942, Henry Fonda saw active duty, worked his way up to the rank of lieutenant on staff duty, Air Combat.

With three other Navy pilots, Wayne Morris (second from Left) poses for a picture aboard their carrier after a strike against Formosa in 1944.  Morris entered the Naval Reserve in 1942, was commissioned a lieutenant, won the Distinguished Flying Cross in 1944 for destroying seven Japanese planes, six on the ground and one in the air.
