Curtiss SB2C-1 Helldiver: This Curtiss SB2C-1 Helldiver was flown by the NACA at Langley with an early radio-control system. Flying controls such as a spring tab were also examined with this airframe. Helldivers were also operated by the U. S. Army as A-25 Shrikes.

Vought F4U-1 Corsair: This is a &quot;Birdcage&quot; Corsair, so called for the canopy framing around the cockpit. Several F4Us were flown by the NACA , but this F4U-1 only flew at Langley for two months in 1943 before going to the U. S. Navy at Norfolk Naval Air Station.

Grumman XF6F-4 Hellcat: This Grumman XF6F-4 Hellcat tested while at Langley a turbo-supercharger, rather than a gear-driven supercharger as was the norm with the F6F. This aircraft served with the NACA for almost one year, beginning in the spring of 1944.
