Grumman XTBF-1 Avenger: The second Grumman XTBF-1, this Avenger performed most of the developmental test work as the first was lost soon after its first flight. Arriving in the spring of 1942, the XTBF-1 was tested in the 30 x 60 Full Scale Tunnel that June and left the following year.

Brewster F2A-2 Buffalo: The Navy's Brewster F2A-2 Buffalo did not prove to be a particularly effective fighter aircraft, but that did not prevent countries such as England, Finland, and Australia from operating version of the Buffalo. This F2A-2 arrived at Langley from the factory by truck in 1942, and was sent to NAS Norfolk two years later.

Grumman F6F-3 Hellcat: Another of the Grumman &quot;Cat&quot; fighters, this is a Hellcat. This F6F-3 example arrived at Langley from Floyd Bennett Field in New York for the NACA early in 1943. After performing test work all though World War II, it was surveyed in 1946.
