US Marine Corps Colonel William W. Ashurst arrives for negotiations to surrender to Japanese Forces in Beijing, China.
   After the outbreak of war with Japan, US Marines guarding the American embassy in the city, along with a number of sailors, including himself, were taken captive on December 8, 1941. They were held in prisoner of war camp until June 1945.
