Marine looking over the shrapnel damage done to an 81mm mortar tube whose firing pit took a hit from Japanese counter-battery fire. Unexploded rounds from the tube lie half submerged in mud and rain water, and most of the rest of the position was shredded by shrapnel. The photo was taken in the spring of 1945 on Okinawa.
