Packed in a Navy LCVP (Landing Craft Vehicle Personnel) the US Third Army infantrymen cross the Rhine River near Boppard, Germany on March 25, 1945.
   The Navy would ferry more than 26 000 troops to the east bank of the river, greatly facilitating the Western Allies' drive to the heart of Nazi Germany.
