German anti tank gun emplacement in the port of Cherbourg, Manche, France. The Battle of Cherbourg was fought as part of the Normandy Campaign in June 1944. The battle was an Allied victory, but the Germans destroyed the port before the Allies could take control of the city.

   During the Battle of Okinawa, Doss saved the lives of 75 wounded infantrymen atop Hacksaw Ridge despite being wounded four times himself.
