American M4 "Sherman" tanks and infantry reach the east side (Erpel side) of the Remagen railway bridge (Ludendorf-Brücke) over the Rhine river. The bridge was captured by the American army on March 7, 1945 from the city of Remagen, Germany (on the western bank of the Rhine). The photo was taken from the tunnel in front of the bridge, from the Erpel side.
