Lucky GI

American soldiers during the Battle for the Ardennes. Note the soldier on extreme right is holding a BAR (Brownie Automatic Rifle), the one next to him a "Grease Gun" (.45 caliber submachine gun). The other two have an M1 Garand semi-automatic rifle (clip of 8 .30 caliber bullets) with bayonette; December 1944-January 1945. 
Ardennes is a region in southeast Belgium that extends into Luxembourg, Germany and France.  It's rugged terrain encompasses rolling valleys, meandering rivers, extensive caves and dense forests crisscrossed with hiking paths.
