101st Airborne, an interesting discovery 74 years later. This British commando dagger was found a few days ago near D-DAY EXPERIENCE museum. It was 20 cm deep in the ground, near Chateau Bel Enault, at Saint-Côme-du-Mont, in the middle of the Hq. Company, 501st PIR sector. On June 6, 44, the men of Hq. Co. 501st jumped near the castle where they installed the first forward command post established in France. On the period photo provided from the book CARENTAN (www.d-day-publishing.com/product/carentan), the S-2 section, Hq. 501st PIR is en route to Normandy. Lt. Foster G. Beamsley is jumping with a similar British commando dagger strapped to his leg. This stick landed in the gardens of the Château. taken from fb/Places of War
