Mark Clark and the “Rome Express”

J.T. Walker via Flickr

Italy, 1944: General Mark Clark, U.S. Fifth Army’s commanding general during the Italian Campaign, standing in front of the Stinson L-5 Sentinel, “A” s/n 298489, “Rome Express”, which replaced the L-4 Grasshopper earlier used by Clark as personal aircraft. Under the windscreen the name of J. T. Walker, Clark’s personal pilot. Notice the Clark’s tallness which nearly touch the airplane’s wing leading edge. Victor Sierra
