In April of 1942, with the Japanese Army less than two miles away, numerous US Army Nurses defied orders to evacuate as to stay with their Filipino sisters (nurses) and tend to the wounded on both Bataan and then the Island of Corregidor. Considering the Japanese reputation for their treatment of prisoners, this was an incredibly brave act.
