Corporal Jack Bramkamp, Company B, 2nd Ranger Battalion, gives a special invasion trim to Cpl. Elmer Olander as other Rangers admire his handiwork. Note the artfully decorated back of the Battle Jacket, which serves as a barbers cape. The 65 men of Company B landed not at Point du Hoc, but on the extremr Western edge of Omaha Beach. Almost half, including Bramkamp and Olander, never even reached the seawall before being cut down by enemy machine-gun fire.

Behind him is Frank Sayers, a Native-American affectionately known as "Chief" Both 101st Airborne Troopers are loaded down with the bulky gear worn in combat drops, and Sayers has one of the dreaded "Griswold" bags hanging from the front of his chutes belly band.
