The nine-day battle at Montelimar cost the German army dearly in the midst of unimaginable horror. The final convoy leaving Montelimar on August 29, with 2,000 vehicles of all type including horse-drawn transportation, was trapped on a 14 kilometer stretch of Highway 7 to the north.
