CO 36th Infantry Division. Major General John E. Dahlquist (1896-1975) took charge of the 36th Infantry Division (Texas Division) just before the southern France invasion. Born in Minneapolis, Dahlquist graduated from the University of Minnesota as a young lieutenant and then joined the Occupation Forces in Germany after World War I, later finding assignment in the Philippines. texag57
