Operation Market Garden (the part that worked)

Rather oddly-posed 'photo of soldiers of the US 101st Airborne Division and Dutch Resistance members outside Eindhoven Cathedral, September 1944. The Dutch Resistance had been comprehensively infiltrated by the Gestapo earlier in the war, and was in consequence distrusted by Allied intelligence in 1944. A pity - this resulted in the British commanders in control of Market Garden ignoring clear messages from the Dutch Resistance that a German armoured force was present in the Arnhem area in September 1944. The British also had aereal photography intellegence indicating the same. A Bridge too Far? Maybe - but also perhaps a case of "military intelligence" being a contradiction in terms ... Best regards, JR.
