P-38J 42-67823 KI-N. Crashed on 4th May 1944 during test flight. Roy Scrutchfield took his Crewchief up in a cleared out space behind the cockpit on a test flight. He demonstrated the technique of switching off the engines and restarting them in flight. However, the engines refused to restart. Luckily, neither man was injured in the resulting forced landing, but the A/C was a write-off.

According to my source, this American plane was hit, in the propeller, by an 88 mm shell, over the town/city of Munster. The pilot was 19-year-old lieutenant Edwin Wright.
