June 1946 - The first Lockheed P-80 Shooting Star landed at Fürstenfeldbruck AAF field, near Munich.  All personnel were invited to crawl over and under the first jet they'd ever seen. The Nazi jets had been quickly removed to the USA a year before.

The presence of P-80s in USAFE was pretty short. They arrived April 24, 1946 and were assigned  to the 55th  Fighter Group, XII Tactical Air Command, stationed at Giebelstadt, U.S. Zone, Occupied Germany.  Because of spare parts problems, they were all returned to the U.S. (called the Zone of the Interior, or ZI, at that time). This photo shows one at Fürstenfeldbruck AAF base near Munich, Bavaria.

People ask if it was right to drop the bomb and humane. 

I ask them was it humane for the Japanese who dissected American and Allied POWs alive and awake, freeze Chinese POWs arms and legs solid, send balloons of the Plague all over China, rape and murder possibly 30,000 Chinese girls from 8 years old to 98 years old at Nanjing, use Chinese POWs as live bayonet dummies, bury thousands alive to save on ammunition, lock up hundreds of American POWs in bomb shelters and dump gasoline into the shelter and burn the POWs alive or cut the livers out of Australian POWs and eat them for breakfast?. We saved many American and Allied lives dropping those bombs, even innocent Japanese lives in the long run were saved by not having us invade.
