Impressive photo of the Martin Mariner PBM. This one is an earlier type, as seaplane or flying boat with no landing gear, It was beached on trolleys, that had to be attached before entering a ramp. The massive aircraft is from first sight somewhat out of proportions with only 2 engines. Very rare for a late 1930's design and possibly the blame for its later reputation as Crew Killer. As a young kid, I saw from nearby in awe this plane starting and making a very long run over the airstrip, as if a huge whale was trying to get airborne. taken from FB , Hans Wiesman
